TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Hillsborough County's Fred Karl County Center is scheduled to reopen Tuesday after the building's fire sprinkler system sprang a leak, prompting the closure of the building on Monday.

The Fred Karl County Center is located at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.

On Tuesday afternoon, county officials said a failed gasket on the third floor sprinkler system allowed water to spray on an electrical panel, motors and pumps. This disabled potable water service to the majority of the building and some elevators. Carpeting, ceiling tiles and drywall were damaged in some areas of the second and first floors.

The damage was first discovered Sunday night around 8 p.m. Crews worked Sunday night to try to fix the problem and mop up the mess.

This is the second time the sprinkler system has caused water damage to the County Center in just a few weeks.  It happened the first time over Memorial Day weekend.  Business was not interrupted at that time.

About 1,200 people work at the County Center.  They worked Monday from their homes or a satellite office.
