Tampa Police searching for auto burglary suspect

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Tampa Police Air Service and K-9 units are searching for a man suspected of an auto theft, according to the Tampa Police report.

According to TPD, two men tired to flee in the stolen car near North 43rd Street and East Powhatan Avenue in Tampa. Police captured one of the men, Donald Robert Welch, 29, near East Clinton Avenue, after the two got out of the car and tried to run away. The second man escaped.

The air and K-9 units are searching the area for the second man.

The car was reported stolen by the Tampa International Airport Police. TPD officers notified the airport that they have recovered the car. Officers said there was no damage or injuries in this incident.

Welch was booked into the Hillsborough County on grand theft auto and other charges.
