DURHAM, N.C. -

North Carolina is known for film-making, now another movie is being added to the list right here in the Triangle.

Uptone Pictures is currently filming "Union Bound." The script is based on the diary of Joseph Hoover, a Union solider who escapes prison with the help of slaves. The film is being shot in in Durham at the historic Stagville Plantation, which stretched for 30,00 acres and was home to 900 slaves in 1860.  Stagville was one of the largest plantations in the South at the time.

Other scenes were shot in Edenton.

The crew is about halfway done shooting the movie, and those involved with the production said this isn't your average Civil War movie."

"It is based on actual events," said director Harvey Lowry. "This really, really happened. Everything in this movie is documented. Joseph Hoover kept a very extensive diary every day. He was writing in his diary keeping track."

Actors involved in the film include Sean Stone, Randy Wayne Isaac C. Singleton and more including Larry "Tank" Jones.

"It's not just a Civil War film," said Jones. "It's a part of history that normally isn't told. It hasn't been told in cinema, it hasn't been told in the history books. Somebody needs to know."

"Union Bound" is set to be released in mid 2015.
