St Pete travel agency to have bankruptcy hearing

Posted: Updated:
Sun City Center, FL - A St. Petersburg travel agency has a hearing in bankruptcy court after 8 on Your Side uncovered that some locals who paid for trips, went nowhere. Creditors who lost money are welcome to attend.

St. Petersburg-based 'Carefree Vacation Services' took money from numerous Tampa Bay seniors for travel then shut down. Some people had paid hundreds of dollars for trips.

A group of 50 from Sun City Center paid more than $100,000 for a trip out west, but the trip never happened.

"We just feel we've been very badly taken advantage of," Bob Beck said. "It's going be a long time before we trust anybody."

8 On Your Side reached out to the Carefree president on multiple occasions, but he avoided us and never answered our questions.

The hearing will be held at the United States Trustee’s office on East Polk Street in Tampa at 8:30 a.m. Anyone who lost money from Carefree is welcome to attend.

Count on 8 on Your Side to be there and bring you the results.
