PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Former SPCA Tampa Bay volunteers are calling for the shelter's executive director Martha Boden to step down. With an online petition and social media drive, the former volunteers won't back down.

A lot of people have liked their Facebook page and signed the circulating online petition.

"We were pushed out because we asked too many questions about animal welfare," said a long-time volunteer Cindi Crane.

Crane and dozens of other volunteers are spear-heading the petition.

Martha Boden said the volunteers used to "show up when they wanted to and then when they got her they could select any job that they wanted to do."

The volunteers who all have corporate jobs, say they know all about structure. They had volunteered for SPCA for six years or more. They said they can't understand why Boden would turn her back on free help.

"We tried to go through the proper channels to express our concerns, and she (Boden) just dismissed us," said Amy Ulrich, another long-time volunteer.

The volunteers say they will continue their fight. WFLA News Channel 8 will monitor the story and bring you the updates.
