PORT RICHEY, FL (WFLA) -

A Pasco County man is clinging to life after investigators tell us he tried to break in a home while wearing a mask and was shot by a woman inside the home.

The home invasion happened in the 6900 block of Alta Vista Lane in Port Richey.  Pasco County Sheriff’s Office investigators tell us the suspect knocked on the front door while armed with a gun and wearing a mask.

“We’re getting sick of it, this is a good neighborhood.,” said  neighbor Rebina Weilbacker.

Weilbacker is fed up after neighborhood drug activity reached her front door Wednesday night.

“My husband opened the front door and there is smoke pouring into our house and there is a car in our driveway just a foot from our house. It took out our bushes, our palm trees, side swiped my car and hit the corner or my house just missing the window where we were sitting watching television,” said Weilbacker.

Investigators tell us the crash in Weilbacker’s front lawn was the end result of a home invasion gone bad. They say Anthony Capuano tried to break into a home in the 6900 block of Altsvista Street, while armed and wearing a mask. A woman inside, former exotic dancer Heidi Christophell saw Capuano, grabbed a gun and shot him.

Capuano then jumped in his car to leave but crashed in to Weilbacker’s front lawn just down the street.

“It was lovely when the police put the crime scene tape all around our house,” said Weilbacker.

And drugs are to blame. Investigators found marijuana inside the home that Capuano was breaking into and think that is what he was after. Steven Brown who lives at the home now faces drug charges.

“It’s just a sad state of affairs and people just you know , it’s just sad,” said Weilbacker.

Capuano is in critical condition after he was shot twice in the side. Christophell doesn’t face charges in the shooting.
