Truck slams into Peace St. bridge in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A tractor trailer smashed into a bridge over Peace Street in Raleigh Thursday morning, blocking traffic in both directions.

The train bridge near the corner of Peace Street and Glenwood Avenue has a yellow sign warning, “Low Clearance: 12’-4’” to alert traffic of the issue.

But the top of the truck’s cargo area hit the bottom of the bridge, causing the body of the truck to buckle from the impact. The accident happened just before 9 a.m. Thursday morning. The street was still blocked as of 10:30 a.m. but was open by 11 a.m.

Raleigh Police were quickly on the scene and the busy downtown Raleigh street was closed in both directions.
