FAYETTEVILLE, NC -
Authorities have recovered what's believed to be the remains of Kelli Bordeaux.
They found the remains of the missing 23-year-old Fort Bragg soldier in a deeply wooded area off Interstate 295 in Cumberland County. She disappeared more than two years ago after leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar on April 14, 2012.
Fayetteville police said in a 4 p.m. news conference that they have arrested Nicholas Michael Holbert in connection with Bordeaux’s death. He will be charged with first-degree murder. Police say he's been a person of interest in the case for nearly two years.
He originally told police that he dropped Bordeaux off at the entrance to the apartment complex.
"Mr. Holbert has been a person of interest in this case almost from the beginning," Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said Wednesday. "Holbert was on the scene [where Bordeaux was found] with our detectives earlier today and he shared some vital information."
Police said Bordeaux left Froggy Bottoms with Holbert, a registered sex offender who lived behind the bar.
"We believe he did offer her a ride and did give her a ride," Medlock said.
Investigators believe Bordeaux was dead when her body was dumped in the wooded area
