Highway Patrol is charging three teens in connection with a fatal street racing crash more than a month ago near Mebane in Orange County.

On April 2, Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle crash on Lebanon Road near Mill Creek Road in Orange County.

Troopers indicated early that speed was a factor in the crash that killed 16-year-old Desmond Piccini.

Highway Patrol said Piccini, of Mebane, was traveling east on Lebanon Road in his 1989 Ford Mustang. Piccini vehicle went onto the shoulder, causing the teen to overcorrect. The vehicle crossed the center line, went into the westbound shoulder and hit a rock wall.

Piccini’s Mustang overturned and eventually came to a stop on Lebanon Road. A passenger in the vehicle, 16-year-old McCray Williams, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Duke Hospital where he was treated and released.

On Wednesday, Highway Patrol charged Williams with aiding and abetting a prearranged speeding competition.

Two other teens have also been charged in the fatal crash. Kameron Clevenger, 19, is charged with prearranged speed competition, misdemeanor death by vehicle, careless and reckless driving and misdemeanor child abuse.

Troopers also charged Pavel Jones, 18, with spontaneous speed competition and careless and reckless driving.
