VENICE, FL (WFLA) -

Born in Sarasota, Josh Kaufman found out Tuesday evening that he will be one of three contestants vying for the top spot on NBC’s The Voice.

Getting into the Josh Kaufman spirit, many sported his trademark fedora Tuesday night at Bogey's Sports Pub in Venice. A large crowd filled the outdoor patio.

Many wore special shirts with their favorite Voice singer on them. Management even came up with a cake to celebrate the occasion.

The crowd got tense when the big announcement came. Josh Kaufman was the second person named to come back next week.

While many of Josh's relatives are in Los Angeles to watch the show in person, plenty more stayed behind to see it on TV, and they are very happy.

“Couldn't happen to a better guy,” said Jim Kaufman, one of Josh’s uncles. “I tell you, he's a great kid, he's a great family guy. And we're so proud of him.”

“Very proud of him, I'm so surprised, I've known him since he was a little boy, to see him like that, it’s wonderful,” said his grandmother, Joan Walsh.

The little boy who used to sing with his dad in church is now a finalist on a huge national stage.

“He definitely deserves it. He been so far and done so much that doing all this, that he deserves it,” said Josh’s cousin, Daniel Kaufman.

The large crowd at Bogey’s promises to return next Tuesday to root for Josh all over again.

The three-hour Voice finale show starts Tuesday May 20th at 8:00 p.m.
