Florida National Cemetery to host Memorial Day Ceremony

BUSHNELL, FL (WFLA) -

WFLA Storm Team 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at the Florida National Cemetery's Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26. The public is invited to attend this free memorial which begins at 11 a.m.

Major General Michael T. Plehn, Principal Director for Middle East Policy will be the Keynote Speaker.

The memorial will include participants from the Tampa Bay area. Joseph Harrin will lead the Hernando High School Band as they play patriotic music prior to and during the ceremony. Marine Corps League 708 Detachment from Spring Hill, will perform a rifle salute and Central High School NJROTC Color Guard will post colors. Ye Mystic Air Krewe will provide a flyover.

Organizations with colors are invited to participate in the massing of colors at the beginning of the program. Veterans’ organizations should plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m.

400 flags in the "Avenue of Flags" will be on display along the roadways of the cemetery. The flags were donated to the cemetery by the next of kin of deceased veterans and were once draped over the caskets or cremation urns of veterans.
