TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A man suspected of killing his girlfriend's toddler turned himself in to authorities on Monday.

Tampa Police detectives and the U.S. Marshall's Fugitive Task Force had been searching for Deandre Gilmore, 31, since last Thursday when a first degree murder warrant was issued for his arrest.

Investigators say Gilmore was babysitting his girlfriend's one and a half year old daughter when he called 911 saying she was unconscious.

Police officers and Tampa Fire Rescue medics responded to the scene and found the toddler unresponsive on the living room couch. Investigators say she had upper body trauma.

The girl was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where she later died. The medical examiner determined that she died from blunt force trauma.

Tampa Police say members of the task force contacted Gilmore who gave himself up in a parking lot in Eastern Hillsborough County on Monday.
