BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) - A 24-year-old Bradenton man was arrested early Sunday on domestic battery charges following a fight with his live-in girlfriend.

Minish, 22, also suffered several bruises and cuts during the assault and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for observation.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report deputies were dispatched to 3109 39th Ave. East just before 2 a.m. in response to a domestic violence call. Wegner and Minish, who have a child together, began arguing in a bedroom of the residence.

The dispute turned violent when the suspect punched Minish in the face several times. The report states Wegner prevented the victim from leaving and closed her in the bedroom. His violence towards Minish got worse so she grabbed a pair of scissors to defend herself.

She stabbed him in the upper chest area but he managed to get the scissors away from her. Minish ran out the front door and to a nearby family member’s house where she called 9-1-1.

Wegner’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. A corrections officer will remain at the hospital with the suspect until he is ready for transportation to the jail.

Wegner is no stranger to law enforcement in Manatee County. He’s been arrested several times since 2007 on a variety of charges including child abuse, domestic battery, violation of a domestic injunction, petit theft and grand theft.
