Vigil held for missing woman

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - A candlelight vigil was held Saturday for Misti Whitfield, a 36-year-old mother of five who was last seen in West Tampa in May.

Whitfield's family and friends and the Tampa police detective assigned to the case are gathered at McCall Park, 100 N. Collins St. in Tampa. They are hoping to raise awareness about Whitfield's disappearance.

She was last seen on May 2 near Nautical Marine at 5525 W. Hillsborough Ave, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officials said it was unlike Whitfield to disappear without checking in with her family.

Although Whitfield's disappearance is classified as a missing person case and detectives have no evidence of a crime, relatives and police officials are growing more concerned as more time passes, a TPD news release states.

Police detectives are asking anyone with information about Whitfield's whereabouts to call the police department. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
