St. Pete man shot to death following confrontation

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) - A 53-year-old Bay area man was shot to death early Saturday after he confronted two men who were attempting to steal his vehicle from the driveway in front of his home.

Floyd Lassiter died just after 2 a.m. at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

According to a St. Petersburg Police Department report officers were dispatched to 1827 25th St. South at approximately 1:25 a.m. in response to a shots fired call. When they arrived they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Lassiter was treated by emergency service personnel at the scene and transported to the hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim confronted the suspects and engaged in a physical confrontation with one of them. The second suspect, who was armed the report states, fired several rounds that struck Lassiter.

The pair fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Detectives with the SPPD researched the victim’s address and discovered that Lassiter filed a report on May 8th on a burglary at his residence. The perpetrators made off with the victim’s car keys.

So far no suspects have been identified as the investigation continues.
