US Coast Guard crews rescue 73-year-old who fell overboard

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) - US Coast Guard crew rescued a man who went boating and fell overboard near Cortez Thursday evening, according to USCG.

Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg watchstanders received a call relayed from 911 about a man, 73, who fell off a boat and suffered a medical condition.

His wife and friends who were with him jumped into water and held his head above the surface for about six minutes until Coast Guard Station Cortez crew arrived.

"The crew witnessed the man struggling in the water, they pulled him aboard and began CPR immediately,” said Lieutenant Mark Upson, command duty officer at the sector.

The crews took the man to the shore where paramedics were waiting to help him.
