Fire damages a dozen apartments in Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - A two-alarm fire damaged a part of the apartment building on Waters Avenue in Tampa late Tuesday evening. Nobody was hurt, according to fire officials.

Hillsborough County Fire and Rescue and Tampa Fire crews both responded to 4711 Waters Avenue a little before midnight. They saw smoke and flames coming from the third floor of Building 5 of the Cypress Lake Apartments complex.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. They said nobody was injured in the blaze but 12 apartments were compromised. Tampa Bay's chapter of the American Red Cross will help the displaced residents.
Firefighters reminded that a properly functioning smoke alarm can cut your chances to die in a fire by half. If you can't afford an alarm you can call HCFR at (813) 272-6600 and ask about their SAFE program.
