TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - On Wednesday night's Tampa Bay Rays game, Tampa resident and Iraq War Veteran will be throwing out the first pitch.

Army Veteran Taylor Urruela will fulfill his life long dream of throwing out the first pitch of the Rays game against the Baltimore Orioles at Tropicana Field.

Urruela, an aspiring ball player, will also be featured in a new documentary series on PBS called "Coming Back with Wes Moore" airing Tuesday, May 13 at 8 p.m.

Just two days before his yearlong deployment in Iraq came to an end, Taylor Urruela lost his leg after his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device, which also took the life of his commander.

Since his transition from active duty, Taylor has not only tried out for the University of Tampa Division 2 baseball team, he also co-founded VETSports, a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive sports opportunities for returning wounded and combat veterans.

A Purple Heart recipient, Taylor currently attends The University of Tampa where he is studying Writing and aspires to be a screenwriter and novelist.

Wednesday night's game starts at 7 p.m.
