Candidates hit the campaign trail for governor's race

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Gov. Rick Scott continues a five-day campaign swing Tuesday with a stop in Tampa.

Scott kicked off what’s being called the “Help is on the way” Tax Cut Tour on Monday with a stop in Jacksonville. The tour was scheduled to then make stops in Orlando, Tampa and Fort Myers.

It’s the first official string of campaign events for Scott, who is running for re-election, and it comes with a tweaked slogan.

“In 2010 it was ‘Let’s get to work,’ now it’s ‘Let’s keep working,’” Scott said at the rally in Jacksonville. “We’ve got to keep working to lower taxes improve education, make sure we keep a low crime rate.”

Scott is scheduled to hold a rally at Brandon Honda at noon on Tuesday.

Meanwhile on Monday, Scott’s potential opponent Democrat Charlie Crist made a stop at Versailles restaurant in Miami, mingling with supporters and answering questions from reporters.

“I'm trying to become governor again because we need a governor with a heart,” Crist said.

Crist is expected to be back in South Florida on Tuesday in Broward County. He told reporters he and his wife are renting a condominium there.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is changing management rules of invasive lionfish to remove them from state waters. Lionfish was introduced to state waters in the 1980s, and since then, populations have boomed in recent years, negatively impacting native wildlife and habitat, the FWC says.
