Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two Kingsport residents Saturday on drug charges, following a traffic stop for speeding.

According to a WCSO news release, investigators stopped Dean Keller, 23, 2560 Mclean Drive and Tyree Ford, 23, 3316 Watterson St., in a Hyundai Elantra on Highway 36 for speeding.

When deputies stopped the vehicle, a K9 unit was used to sniff the vehicle and indicated illegal drugs.

A search of the vehicle reportedly resulted in the discovery of six bags of marijuana, equaling around three ounces, as well as a handgun. Small amounts of cash, as well as the vehicle, were seized by deputies.

According to the release, a third passenger in the vehicle fled on foot. Investigators have reportedly identified the suspect and charges are pending.

A fourth individual in the vehicle was reportedly a juvenile and was released into the custody of their parents.

Keller and Ford were both take to the Washington County Detention Center.

According to the release, Keller, the driver, was charged with speeding, financial responsibility, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of a schedule VI drug for resale. He was being held on $21,000 bond.

Ford was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug for resale, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was being held on $21,000 bond.

Keller and Ford were both scheduled to be arraigned in Sessions Court Monday.

According to the release, more charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
