Glow Run lights up the Greenville Town Common

Posted: Updated:
Saturday night more than 750 runners in glow and LED gear took part in the Easter Seals UCP Great Glow Run at Town Common. This was the event’s debut in Greenville and is North Carolina’s original illuminated evening race with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Easter Seals UCP. The organization is one of the largest non-profit providers of disability-related services to individuals and their families. The Easter Seals UCP Great Glow Run started in Wilmington three years ago and has grown to a four city series.

Christina Woodruff (Pictured in an Orange shirt in the slideshow), 14, handed out awards made by the children at the Easter Seals UCP Summer Moore Children’s Center to the top race finishers. You’re your Side viewers may remember Christina. She has been exceeding expectations since she was a year old. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 8 months old, she was not expected to walk or be able to go to a typical school. Thanks to early intervention services and specialized therapies from the Easter Seals UCP Summer Moore Children’s Center, Christina started walking at 3 years old and has been in a regular classroom since she started kindergarten. The group says Easter Seals UCP has been a part of life since her diagnosis and currently helps her with in-home skills to build her independence. They say that as a 7th grade honor student, Christina plays baseball, swims and is a wonderful example of living a life without limits.
