Families of victims demand answers after double shooting in Chattahoochee County

Posted: Updated:
CUSSETA, Ga. - Two teenagers are fighting for their life after they were gunned down Monday, and their families are demanding answers in what they believe was a racially-motivated attack.

The shooting happened at a park in Chattahoochee County. GBI officials say they know who pulled the trigger of a semi-automatic rifle, but the family members of the victims tell us they're outraged no arrests have been made.

Officials say they haven't made any arrests because they are still trying to determine a motive.

One victim's mother tells us the suspect was her son's friend, so she can't understand why the shooting happened. The other victim's mother, Shonna Jackson, says she wants justice.

Jackson says, "Not knowing anything, trying to contact people and you're not getting any answers, that's rough. And then to go in there and look at your child laying there, and it's like you're helpless, and it's ridiculous. Somebody needs to do something."

The families rallied with the community Thursday night to organize their own chapter of the NAACP. Those plans are still in the works.

The two teens were shot multiple times. The 19-year-old is being treated at Midtown Medical Center. The 15-year-old victim is being treated in Atlanta. Both remain in critical condition.

The GBI tells News 3 they should be able to release more information about the case on Monday.
