ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) - A St. Petersburg man has been arrested in connection to a road rage incident in which police say a woman was dragged and run over by the man's truck.

St. Petersburg Police arrested 49-year-old Michael James Deely Thursday night and charged him with Aggravated Battery. Police say he admitted his involvement to detectives.

According to police, the alleged incident started at 2nd Ave South and 2nd Street when Deely was driving behind the woman and claims he honked his horn at the 39-year-old victim to get her attention as she didn't move when the light turned green. Deely says the woman appeared to be texting on her phone.

Deely says he then passed the woman and drove to the red light at 4th Avenue south and 4th Street where she stopped behind him, got out her car, approached his open driver's window and started to yell at him.

Police say he denies grabbing the woman's arm and dragging her as he drove off, but instead claims that she was the one who grabbed the door and held on. Police say he also claims that he was unaware that he ran over the woman after she fell from the vehicle.

Detectives were able to identify Deely as a suspect based on video from a parking garage at 2nd Avenue South and 2nd Street. Viewing the video, detectives observed Deely's truck, which matched the suspect vehicle description given by witnesses, leaving the garage at about the time the incident occurred.

Police say Deely's identity was obtained from swipe card information he used to pay for parking at the garage.

He was arrested at his home Wednesday night. Police also impounded his 2002 Silver Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck. He's being held on $10,000 bond.
