Tarpon Springs man accused of getting girls to take naked photos

Posted: Updated:

Using a variation of the screen name “Brianna Benson,” a Tarpon Springs man is accused of trying to get young girls to send him naked photos of themselves, then threatening them to get more.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Melvin Barber Bridgers III sent Facebook messages to girls, pretending to be a teen girl himself. After getting some photos, he would threaten to post the images where the girl’s family could see them unless they sent more photos.

In one chat detailed in the complaint, Bridgers pretends to be “Brianna Benson” and badgers a 12-year-old to send him more photos, saying, “If you don’t, this is the last chance I will post them everywhere.”

Later in the conversation, he asks: “How old is your sis baby?”

The girl says she is 7-years old. “Send some pics of her instead,” he said.

When the girl asks what kind of pictures, he responds, “Idc, naked lol.”

Bridgers is facing several charges including production of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Bridgers was previously arrested in Palm Beach County for video voyeurism, accused of taking up-skirt photos of children in a candy store, according to the complaint. A headline in the Broward/Palm Beach New Times dubbed him the “candy store creeper.”

Local law enforcement worked with Homeland Security Investigations on the case. Investigators are looking for help in locating more potential victims. If you have information for them, contact the ICE-HSI tipline at 1-866-347-2423.
