CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

If you're heading to Clearwater Beach anytime soon, you need to know how to do the "stingray shuffle."

The Clearwater Beach Patrol is seeing an increased number of stingray injuries at the beach.

Stingrays like to rest in shallow water just a few yards off of the beach and are hard to see because they camouflage themselves.

Stingrays have sharp barbs which can cause deep cuts if you step on them. There is also venom in the barbs.

If you shuffle your feet in the sand, it often scares away stingrays that might be around.

Purple warning flags are also posted on the beach to warn people about the stingray danger.

If you are stung by a stingray, see a lifeguard at one of the towers or go to fire station #46, which is located at 534 Mandalay Ave.
