PALM HARBOR, FL (WFLA) -

Drones are all the buzz on social media and the news lately, and a Tampa Bay real estate start-up is using this flying agent to take the business on a whole new level.

"This is a really cool perspective of how drone-like technology can be used in the civilian world to take businesses to a whole new level," said PJ Cook, the retired USAF Special Opps pilot who has landed a new job with his startup company "Overhead Real Estate."

"I get asked by the realtor to come out to their area and video and photograph large, expensive luxury homes, lots, all the big items like the one today," said Cook.

I met PJ Cook at a job site for Palm Harbor realtor Kenny Hazlet while he shot aerial video and stills of the sprawling property up for sale.

"These are angles that you couldn't just normally get. But we can do that and give a nice video tour from over head and make sure we show all the features of the property," said Cook.

Inside properties and out, but flying UAVs takes skill. Wind shifts could crash-land your expensive equipment, and there are major safety concerns.

"Safety is number one, I’ve got 22 and a half years of US Air Force Special Ops flying, it was all Special Ops time, with seven of that being in helicopters," said Cook.

You have to follow the FAA regulations, keep it below 400 feet, half a mile from an airport and of course whenever you hear a helicopter, land immediately, get out of their way.

The search engine giant Google just acquired drone maker titan Aerospace, a clear sign that the unmanned air vehicles are making news, sharing news and taking off in the private sector.
