PORT RICHEY, FL (WFLA) - Pasco Fire Rescue responded to a home at 10801 Corinth Court in Port Richey Friday afternoon where an 8-year-old girl was bit in the face by the family dog, a chocolate lab.

Pasco officials say the dog was being kept in a back room because it was acting aggressively towards the children.

Pasco County Public Information Officer Doug Tobin reports the child went into the back room to get a toy and was violently attacked by the dog.

Tobin added the girl suffered severe lacerations to her face, eyes and nose. First responders on the scene believe she may need reconstructive surgery. She was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.
