Road closures, detours for Tar Heel 10 Miler

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Traffic will be detoured in areas of Chapel Hill from 7 to 10 a.m. on April 26 for the Tar Heel 10 Miler and Fleet Feet Sports 4 Mile Run.

Organizers are expecting 6,000 runners for the event, which starts at the Bell Tower on UNC's campus and finishes inside Kenan Stadium.

Some roads will be completely closed during the race. All other roads along the course will be closed and then re-opened on a rolling basis as the runners pass by the various areas on the course.

Both westbound lanes of Franklin Street will be closed from Park Lane to Graham Street from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m.

Both eastbound lanes of Franklin Street from Graham Street to Columbia Street will be closed from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m.

The intersection of Raleigh and Greenwood roads will be closed from 8 until 9:15 a.m.

And Franklin Street will be closed at Estes Drive and Merritt Mill Road from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m.

All eastbound traffic coming from Carrboro is advised to use Rosemary Street eastbound or Merritt Mill Road southbound. Only local through traffic will be allowed to residents that live between Estes Drive and Park Lane.

Raleigh Road will be closed to traffic between Country Club Road and the intersection of 15-501 from 7 to 10 a.m.

The following roads will be closed from 7:30 until 8:15 a.m. in the Historic Rosemary Neighborhood:

  • N. Boundary Street from Franklin Street to North Street
  • East Rosemary Street from Hillsborough Street to Glenburnie Street
  • Glenburnie Street from Rosemary Street to North Street
  • North Street from Glenburnie Street to Hillsborough Street
  • Hillsborough Street from North Street to Franklin Street.

The following roads will be closed from 7:15 until 8:45 a.m. in the Battle Park Neighborhood:

  • Raleigh Street
  • Battle Lane
  • Boundary Street
