TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Loretta Maloy says she always expected to pay for the courses she took those several weeks, but thought $10,000 in loans just wasn’t right.

With dreams of opening her own spa, Maloy says she started a program at Manhattan Hairstyling Academy, but realized in about three weeks that she wasn’t happy, and the program wasn’t for her.

Maloy quit, but found loan documents showed - even a year later - that she was still on the hook for almost $10,000 in loans for the schooling.

After numerous emails to the school, Maloy says she still had no resolution.

"I get the same response," Maloy said. "We're looking into it, we're looking into it, we're looking into it, and I'm tired of the repetitiveness and nothing being done."

News Channel 8 contacted Manhattan and asked a company official to look into the issue.

Shortly afterward, Maloy received an email from Manhattan explaining that a processing issue prevented her refund from being processed, and offering an apology for the delay and a plan to get things resolved. The email also said that the school would waive a standard fee usually charged to students who leave at that point in the program.

Manhattan’s Robert Valdez, Jr. told News Channel 8 he couldn’t comment specifically about her case, but acknowledged it was a technical processing issue that caused the problem, and said Maloy had everything she needed.
