Police seek suspect in shooting that left 2 dead at Tampa park

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Detectives in Tampa are seeking the public's help identifying anyone who may have been armed and involved in an argument that left two dead at Al Barnes Park on Sunday.

Police say two people, 17-year-old Zelmound Culpepper and 22-year-old Nico Charles Crawford, were fatally shot during a fight that broke out at the park around 5 p.m.

Two others, 21-year-old Danielle Allen and 27-year-old Ransom Flowers, were wounded and currently at the hospital in stable condition.

Wanda Johnson is Crawford's aunt.  She and other family members descended on the scene and call the shooting senseless.  "Lotta hurt. Hard hurting," said Johnson.  "Just couldn't understand what he could've done to somebody to make them kill him like that."

Officers responded to the scene of the shooting where police say several families were enjoying the day the park when a small group of people not related began arguing nearby.

The argument escalated into a fight and police say at least one male pulled out a gun and started shooting at the group.

On Monday, police say they obtained information while investigating that a possible suspect, 22-year-old Ronald Milliron III, was armed in the park at the time of the shooting. Officers contacted him and allegedly located a pistol in his jacket pocket and marijuana.

"Right now, our detectives are working to determine what that suspect's role was, in the shooting, if any." said Tampa Police Spokeswoman Janelle McGregor.  "But our main priority right now is identifying, locating and arresting all of the individuals who were involved."

Police say Milliron is a convicted felon who has previously been charged 16 times.

People who live in that neighborhood and frequent that park are angered, and upset.  Alton Gaines walks through the park on a regular basis, and was there just moments before the gunfire erupted.  "All the kids were our here having a good time, like I say they had the bean bags out here the kids were jumping up and down, having a good time," said Gaines.  "They had kids playing basketball, hiding easter eggs and everything. So it's a tragedy something like that happened, you know. "

Deandre Rogers is also a regular at the park.  "Little kids out here, it really bothers me when you have to see little kids screaming and running trying to cover when you hear gunshots," said Rogers.

Detectives are actively following up on leads and witness statements, however additional details are needed. Anyone who has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for up to $3,000 in cash.
