Rodents, roaches close 6 Tampa Bay restaurants

State inspectors found rodents or roaches and temporarily closed six Tampa Bay eateries on our list of restaurants with the most violations from April 7 to 13, 2014.

We've listed the restaurants that were closed below along with details about what inspectors say they found.

Asian Bistro, 129 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon

April 10: Restaurant temporarily closed with 28 violations
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found.
  • 20 live & fast roaches in back of chest freezer & crawling up sides.
  • One roach in ware wash area.
  • One live in rice cooker which was not in use.
  • Eight on table with cardboard & plastic bags.
  • 20 dead roaches on floor and inside back of cooler.

April 10: Restaurant reopened with two violations


Sonny's BBQ, 10010 Adamo Dr., Tampa


April 9: Restaurant temporarily closed with 28 violations
  • Dead roaches on premises on glue trap: approximately 7-8.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found.
  • Observed three live roaches on glue trap behind table near drive-thru window.
  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found: dark, semi soft to very hard. Approximately 75-100 droppings in dry storage room (hard,dark) and 10 droppings behind fire pit (hard,dark). Seven droppings on cutting board by can rack (hard, dark) approximately 50 droppings on tracks of can rack (hard, dark). 20-25 droppings behind bar area (dark hard). 10-15 droppings near washing machine (dark, hard). Eight droppings in employee bathroom. Approximately 50 droppings (hard, dark) under two-compartment sink, (dark,semi-soft). 20-30 droppings in dish room (hard, dark). 20-25 droppings by back door.
  • Rub marks on foam by employee bathroom sink.
  • Stop Sale issued due to adulteration of food product: powder sugar with chew marks.

April 10: Restaurant reopened with no violations

April 9: Restaurant closed with 36 violations
  • Perimeter walls and roofs do not effectively protect establishment against environmental cross contamination or the entrance of pests: back storage.
  • Live rodents present: four behind walk-in cooler in back storage.
  • Live, small flying insects in food storage area. Three flies in back storage.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. One on flour bag.
  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found: 200 dry droppings in back storage.
  • Rodent chew marks present along walls in back storage.

April 10: Restaurant reopened with 22 violations
  • Rodent chew marks present along walls in back storage.
  • Live, small flying insects in food storage area.
  • Three flies in back storage.
  • Perimeter walls and roofs do not effectively protect establishment against environmental cross contamination or the entrance of pests. Back storage

April 7: Restaurant temporarily closed with 26 violations
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found: 30 on back wall behind dish machine next to cooks line.
  • 12 roaches on pipes by dish machine and three roaches in compartment sink.
  • Two roaches under table next to fryer in gasket of reach-in next to fryer.

April 8: Restaurant reopened with 8 violations

April 11: Restaurant temporarily closed with 23 violations
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found.
  • 15 roaches under shelving/in cove molding.
  • Two roaches under prep counter.
  • One roach in reach in cooler.
  • One roach under hand wash sink.
  • Four live flies in kitchen.
  • Dead roaches on premises. One under handwash sink.

April 12: Restaurant reopened with 6 violations


King's Pizza & Grill, 325 Coronado Dr., Clearwater


April 7: Restaurant temporarily closed with 21 violations
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found.
  • Three live roaches on floor in the dough room.
  • One live roach on trash can in dough room.
  • Two live roaches on food storage shelves in dough room.
  • Two live roaches in side back door area on floor.
  • One live roach in reach in freezer gasket near back door.
  • Three small live roaches in gaskets of glass door in reach in cooler.
  • One small live roach on wall under hand sink in dishwashing/ kitchen area.
  • One live roach on shelf at front counter.
  • Two live roaches in gasket of glass soda cooler in front counter area.
  • One small live roach on floor in front counter of dining area.

April 8: Restaurant reopened with 6 violations
