LAKE WALES, FL (WFLA) -

Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 60 East, between 630 East and Grape Hammock Road, in Lake Wales.

The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday when a semi-tractor trailer heading eastbound collided with a Mercedes which was heading westbound.

The driver of the Mercedes, an unidentified adult, was deceased on-scene. He or she was the only occupant of the car. Due to the car becoming engulfed in flames, deputies say they are unable to make positive identification.

The semi driver was uninjured.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Both west and east bound travel lanes were closed for several hours from Highway 630 to County Line Road. The road opened Thursday night.
