MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says the robbery suspect who died during a shootout with deputies, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say Ross Chrisman, 24, shot himself inside his truck near the 3300 block of State Road 70 on Monday.  An autopsy revealed no other gunshot wounds.

A dog inside the truck was also killed by deputies returning fire. Originally, investigators say it appeared the dog was shot by Chrisman.

The confrontation with deputies happened after a bank robbery at the Florida Bank at 3704 84th Ave. Circle East in southern Manatee County around 11:25 a.m.

The truck was riddled with bullet holes and the back glass was shattered. During the crossfire, Lieutenant Bob Mealy, 52, was shot in the right arm. Mealy was treated and released from the hospital.  The Sheriff's Office says he is recovering well.

The Sheriff's Office says Mealy may speak to the media after an Internal Affairs investigation is complete.
