NEW PORT RICHEY, FL (WFLA) - A Pasco County toy maker that helps children in need has been completely destroyed from a fire this week.

Fire broke out at The ToyMakers in New Port Richey Wednesday morning destroying the building, and all of the equipment inside.

The ToyMakers is a not-for-profit corporation that consists entirely of volunteers who make simple wooden toys for sick and needy children in the Tampa Bay Area. Many of the toys go to local fire departments, police departments, hospitals, and abuse shelters to aid children who are in distress or displaced.

Carl Hansen, the organization's treasurer, says last year they made and provided free over 20,000 toys that were delivered to 27 different agencies in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Hernando counties.

"Several of the lady volunteers also made nearly 1,800 dolls that were also included in our toy deliveries," Hansen adds. There have about 90 volunteers who make toys.

Hansen says they deliver four times per year to agencies including All Children's Hospital, All Children's Specialty Care, all the Ronald McDonald Houses, Salvation Army, Shriner's Hospital, St. Joseph's Cancer Institute, Tampa Children's Hospital, Youth and Family Alternatives, County Fire and Rescue, and local Police and Fire departments.

Pasco County says the toy shop was totally destroyed and although he has insurance, it is unlikely that they will be able to cover the replacement of all the tools.

There is no word on how the fire started.
