WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has opened up an investigation into former longtime Daniel Boone High School head basketball coach Ryan Arnold.

According to TBI Public Information Officer Josh DeVine, the investigation "centers around allegations that (Arnold) had an inappropriate relationship with a 16 year-old student."

When Arnold resigned back in February, the athletic director said it was to "pursue other endeavors."

We've since learned, a little more than a month after his resignation, the district attorney asked TBI to open an investigation.

"We were requested to investigate on March 25th," DeVine said. "The case is still open and ongoing. DCS is also involved."

First Judicial District Attorney General Tony Clark says an anonymous tip to DCS sparked the investigation. He says after receiving that tip DCS contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

According to Clark, the 16 year-old student in question is a girl. Clark says he requested the TBI's help because the agency has more resources to recover phone data like text messages and pictures.

Tennessee Department of Children's Services' Special Investigations Unit is also helping investigate the case.

"These investigators look into allegations of abuse or neglect that may have taken place in a third-party setting -- a school or a day care, for instance -- as opposed to, say, in a home, which would be handled by a CPS investigator," DCS Communications Director Rob Johnson said.

The Washington County School System is not involved in the investigation, according to Director of Schools Ron Dykes.   "We have not been contacted by any investigative team, nor are we involved in the current investigation," Dykes said.
