ANNA MARIA ISLAND, FL (WFLA) -

The Coast Guard says a barge stuck on a beach on Anna Maria Island has been towed free.

A Coast Guard spokesman says at around 2:00 a.m., a tugboat was pushing two barges in the gulf. During the inclement weather, a 180-foot barge broke free.

That barge later got stuck on the beach. The other barge was anchored a few miles off shore.

A tugboat freed the stuck barge just before 4:00 p.m. Officials say there was no significant damage, but possibly a little damage to a seawall.

County spokesman Nick Azzara said the barge was being delivered to Key West until it broke free.

County officials say this barge was not connected to Anna Maria Island's beach renourishment project.
