BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) -

A blaze at a Bradenton apartment complex caused an estimated $125,000 damage and forced the evacuation of residents on Monday evening.

Bradenton firefighters responded to the call at 11:38 p.m. at the Carlton Arms apartment complex off SR 64 East.

When they arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from one apartment in the two-story, 12-unit building.

Bradenton Police evacuated the building.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at 12:05 am.

Investigators say the person who lived at the apartment was not at home when the fire broke out. The Red Cross is helping the person find a place to stay.

An apartment next door suffered minor smoke damage.

Residents of the other apartments were allowed to return to their homes.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The apartment involved suffered extensive fire, heat, smoke and water damage - estimated at $125,000, according to investigators.
