RALEIGH, N.C. -

One person is dead and two others were transported to the hospital after a wreck on I-40 eastbound in Raleigh Sunday night, authorities said.

Raleigh police said William Jerome Clyburn, 60, was I-40 East from Hammond Road around 10:45 p.m. Sunday, when his tractor-trailer was involved in a collision with a car driven by 56-year-old Terry Lane Thompson.

The crash caused Thompson to stall. A car driven by Richmon Taron Hairston, 24, then ran into the rear of Thompson's car.

A passenger in Hairston's car, 23-year-old Cassandra Jean Martin, died as a result of her injures sustained in the crash.

All lanes of I-40 eastbound were shut down for approximately two hours following the wreck.

No charges have been filed, and it was not immediately clear how the initial collision occurred. The incident is still under investigation.
