Bristol, TN detective back at work after not guilty verdict

Posted: Updated:
BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) - A Bristol, Tennessee detective is back on the job after being found not guilty of assaulting his girlfriend.

Police Chief Blaine Wade told News Channel 11, Eric Sargent, 39, was immediately placed back into his position as an investigator with the department on Friday.

An internal investigation still needs to be finished, but Wade said a judge found Sargent not guilty because there was no evidence of a crime committed. Wade added that Sargent was also never given an opportunity to tell his side of the story.

In February the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office arrested Sargent on a simple assault charge. According to the arrest report, Sargent pushed his girlfriend to the ground during an argument.
