ABINGDON, VA - When Billy DeBusk saw that his Virginia Lottery ticket was a really big winner, he couldn’t believe his eyes.

“I didn’t have my glasses on,” said the Abingdon man. “I noticed all the zeros and I thought I’d scratched the wrong numbers.”

It turns out his 50X the Money ticket was worth $ 5 million, the game’s top prize.

He bought the winning ticket at 5Mart, located at 863 West Main Street in Abingdon.

He had a choice of taking the full $5 million over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $3,405,000 before taxes. He chose the cash option. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

50X the Money is one of dozens of games available from the Virginia Lottery. This is the first $5 million winner in the game, which means two top-prize tickets have yet to be claimed. In addition, one $500,000 second-prize has been awarded, which means three remain unclaimed.

Mr. DeBusk said he hopes to invest his winnings.

“It feels super good,” he said. “I still don’t believe it.”
