TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - The deal between the University of South Florida and its perspective basketball coach Steve Masiello may be off, NBC Sports reported Wednesday.

According to NBC Sports, a company hired by USF to find the replacement for Stan Heath, discovered a 'discrepancy' in Masiello's background. A few sports and local sources reported the deal-breaking discrepancy on Wednesday as well.

Steve Masiello, who is considerably one of the most sought-after and highly-regarded up-and-coming coaches, according to NCB Sports, has been the head coach at Manhattan for three years.

USF recently hired Mark Harlan, the school's new athletic director, using the same firm as for Masiello.
