Shumuriel joined the WNCN news team as a General Assignment Reporter in March 2014. As a North Carolina native, Shumuriel is happy to be back in the Tar Heel State. She was born and raised in Monroe, N.C.

Shumuriel comes to the Triangle after spending two years in Huntsville, Ala., as a general assignment reporter. During her time in Hunstville, Shumuriel won an Associated Press award for “Best Spot News Story.” Before Alabama, Shumuriel was a reporter for WCTI-12 in New Bern, N.C.

Shumuriel received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Winston-Salem State University. While at WSSU, Shumuriel wrote for the school paper, the News Argus. She also worked with the school TV station, Ram-TV. While still trying to find her niche in the TV business, Shumuriel interned at WXII 12 News in Winston-Salem, N.C. That internship allowed Shumuriel to learn as a production assistant and web reporter for WXII-12.
