Dog set on fire transferred to Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A dog police say was doused with kerosene and lit on fire has been transported to Tampa to receive specialty treatment.

BluePearl Veterinary is now caring for Hope, the dog named by her rescuers with the Hardee Animal Rescue Team.

Hope is a one-year-old mixed-breed who was set on fire by her owner in Arcadia last week. She was transferred to Tampa on Sunday to receive treatment from BluePearl, a nationally recognized veterinary trauma center. They are working to determine if surgery will be needed.

“We’re very thankful for all of the public interest in helping Hope,” said Leigh Sockalosky, president of HART. “Hope’s will to survive along with her positive medical assessments made her a prime candidate for treatment and we are hopeful she will recover and have a much happier life.”

Those interested in donating to Hope's care should do so at hardeeanimalrescueteam.weebly.com.

Arcadia police are investigating the case and have not charged Hope's owner at this time. Police say they're looking into whether or not the fire was intentional and if the owner is mentally stable.
