Palmetto Police investigate early morning shooting

PALMETTO, FL (WFLA) - Detectives with the Palmetto Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a shooting suspect.

A 26-year-old Sarasota man was seriously injured early Saturday morning when he was shot while riding in a vehicle on Haben Blvd.

According to a Palmetto Police Department report the incident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. Javare Thomas was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Nobody else was injured.

Investigators say the car Thomas was in was traveling west when a newer model pick-up truck pulled up and began firing a weapon into their vehicle. The truck, which had chrome trim and chrome custom-style rims, fled north onto U.S. 41 and then west onto 7th Ave. West.

Once the other occupants in the vehicle had realized Thomas had been shot they drove him to the hospital. No other suspect vehicle description is available at this time.
