According to a Tampa Police Department spokesman Coggins was being sought by authorities in Leon County for failing to register as a sex offender. Once he is medically cleared the 29-year-old suspect will be booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.

Investigators say Coggins drove his car into structure at approximately 9:40 p.m. He quickly ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. He was eventually captured about an hour later in a wooded area off Manhattan Ave.

Coggins was convicted on a lewd and lascivious battery charge and sentenced to state prison in January 2009. He was released after serving more than 30 months.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement website indicates Coggins had recently stopped complying with his sex offender guidelines.
