Lillington man, 84, dies from fire in backyard

LILLINGTON, N.C. -

A man died in Lillington on Friday after it appeared he was burning debris in his back yard and got caught in the fire.

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said Jesse Scott, 84, was found dead the scene when a family member found him in an area of burned grass at his residence on Kramer Road.

Authorities believe he was burning debris in the rear yard of the residence when the fire grew rapidly.

The exact cause of death is not known and there is no indication of a crime.
