PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Pinellas County State Attorney's Office confirmed that the charges against two Pinellas County detention deputies arrested after a fight with an inmate, were dropped.

Detention deputies Klaus P. Reinert, 40, and Mark G. Capanna, 44, were arrested for official misconduct. Reinert also had a battery charge against him.

According to PCSO's investigation, Deputy Reinert had an argument with an inmate Casio Burton, 28, in October last year. Burton was waiting to be transferred to the Pasco County Jail and asked Deputy Capanna about his visitation list. With Capanna busy in the control room and Burton repeatedly asking him about the list, Reinert responded to the question with a profanity. Their verbal altercation escalated to a physical fight between the two, and Capanna pulled them apart.

When the investigation into the fight started, Capanna and Reinert fabricated a report denying the fight.

Both deputies resigned after the investigation started and subsequently turned themselves in to the Pinellas County Jail.

It has been confirmed this week that the charges against the deputies were dropped.
