TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The demand for authentic Cuban sandwiches is on the rise nationwide, but you can't get the true taste of one without authentic Cuban bread which originates out of La Segunda Central Bakery nestled in Tampa's historic Ybor City.

The bakery, nearly a century old, would deliver the bread to businesses around Tampa Bay like the famous Colombia Restaurant, another Ybor staple.

For generations people would come to Tampa and visit establishments like the Colombia restaurant to taste an authentic Cuban sandwich. Soon the famous restaurant started expanding and had to take La Segunda's bread recipe along for the ride.

"As they started to grow we started to grow," said Copeland More of La SeGunda Bakery.

To meet the demands of the Colombia, La Segunda partnered with Sysco Foods to figure out how to keep the bread fresh and ship it to nearby cities. The Columbia set the trend because now La Segunda bakes around the clock churning out close to 12,000 loaves a day. They ship the bread to many cities all across the eastern United States.

"It's thaw and serve even my grandmother couldn't tell the difference," More said.

Four generations later the More family is now shipping a slice of Tampa's history to cities nationwide. Now foodies everywhere can get an authentic Cuban Sandwich.
