Millions in meth crime ring seized in Polk County

Posted: Updated:
POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A major drug bust in Polk County Tuesday led to the seizure of more than 40 pounds of methamphetamine. The "uncut" street value of the meth was more than $2 million dollars.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 25 suspects were involved in the crime ring, 13 people were arrested and 12 more suspects are being sought as part of the meth crime ring.

Investigators say the meth network was responsible for distribution of large amounts of meth in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Seminole Counties.

Investigators identified the oranization's source of methamphetamine supply as Javier Flores, aka: "El Don." Flores was from southern California and managed large scale shipments of meth to Lakeland, Atlanta, Georgia and Las Vegas through southern Califormia from Mexico.

Authorities say leaders in the crime ring would consult with a voodoo priest who would provide predictions, phrophecies and readings regarding the organizations decisions and welfare.

More than 100 weapons, bullet proof vests, thousands of rounds of ammunition and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and vehicles were also confiscated.

Out of the 25 suspects in the organization, investigators say 11 were currently receiving Federal/public assistance, and one had been deported and had come back in the country and was illegally and receiving Federal/public assistance.

In another twist in the investigation, detectives learned that two of those involved in the meth network had ties to Matthew Tutt, a man responsible for shooting and injuring two Polk County Sheriff's deputies in June of 2010. Deputies Mike Braswell and Paul Fairbanks were both shot multiple times by Tutt who was killed when the deputies returned fire.
