CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) - Clearwater Police arrested a man who is accused of abusing his 3-month-old son.

Police arrested Joseph Bentley, 32, Monday night and charged him with felony aggravated child abuse. Detectives said he forcefully picked up the child, squeezed him hard around the ribs area and slammed him into his own shoulder.

Detectives said Bentley admitted that he had hurt the child in this manner about three times. He didn't take the child to a hospital.

The baby's injuries were discovered during a doctor's appointment. Bentley's mother took the baby to a pediatrician for a scheduled appointment and the doctor noticed that the baby's head was swollen.

The baby was taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. Doctors said he suffered a bilateral skull fracture and two broken ribs. He will remain at the hospital.

Detectives continue to investigate.
